Why Choose Hip Operation ? (Edinburgh Wedding Band Hip Operation)
We’re one of the best bands around, and with our vast experience at playing major charity balls, weddings and parties, we know what works best on the dance floor.  We have a great range of material to suit everyone.

Do you do Requests ?
If you have a special song for your first dance, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.  Please give us plenty of notice particularly at busy times of the year. Alternatively, your song can be played on cd.

What will the band wear ?
Smart-casual, but the boys never know what Bev will wear from her vast mobile wardrobe !

How Long will the band play ?
We can cover 3.5 hours playing time in a period between say 8.00 and midnight. The majority of functions will have a break for coffee or buffet, plus we have around 20 minutes of ceilidh if required.

Do we need to provide any equipment ?
No, only a power source is required.  You can provide cd’s if you wish particular background music during the break.

What is your setting up time ?
Realistically around 50 minutes to set up and tune, plus a ten minute sound check.

Do you need a lot of room ?
We range from a 6 piece to an 8 piece band, so yes we need a fair amount of room. Preferably around 6 metres by 4 metres, but 5 metres by 3 metres minimum.

Are the band loud ?
We set our sound levels according to the type and size of the venue, and what is appropriate, depending on the audience.

Do you have the required certification for performing ?
Yes.  We carry an up to date PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) certificate for all our electrical equipment, and have £5,000,000 public liability insurance cover.  This is now a requirement for most venues.

How much do you charge ?
Being a bigger band, we still have to compete against smaller bands.  Our fees are primarily dependent on the playing time, how far we have to travel, and whether or not we have to set up in the afternoon of a performance.  Hopefully we can discuss a quote which suits your needs. Don’t scrimp on your evening’s entertainment.  Your choice of band will make or break your special day.  However, don’t be fooled by bands who appear to be charging a much higher price than others, and never go for the basement bargain !

Anything else we should think about ?
A venue may look stunning but may be difficult acoustically in terms of performance and sound. Modern hotels rarely cause a problem, but older properties can have bare walls, high ceilings and polished floors. Sometimes it’s impossible to get a good sound in such difficulties.  We always do our best, but occasionally it’s a struggle, despite our “state of the art” amplification. Some couples want to include a disco but frankly we are always a bit uncomfortable about this, as we can provide an entire night’s entertainment. Also there can be a space issue, so check your floor layout.

Is it possible to hear the band ?
Yes, always check the band out in a “live” situation, and never rely on a demo cd only.  We actively encourage enquirers to come along to one of our public gigs. See our Tab “Public Gigs”.
